“Facebook serves as an example of how institutional and structure discrimination works against protected classes. The real estate industry used Facebook to achieve several negative outcomes, including the unlawful practice of steering and denying certain people access to the opportunity structure. Even though the Fair Housing Act was passed on April 11, 1968, Facebook and the real estate industry’s practices resulted in limited housing options for protected classes who are sometimes blamed for their poor conditions. Housing discrimination is alive and well. If you have shopped for real estate and you were steered to or away from the location in which you wanted to purchase property, contact the Fair Housing Rights Center in Southeastern Pennsylvania at 215-625-0700 to report possible housing discrimination.”
